The project of creating an Angus beef cattle business started ten years ago, when its founders decided to give a chance to Romania’s boundless natural potential. In time, they have turned from individual entrepreneurs into corporate developers, but everything started with an idea and a dream. For farmers with both courage and entrepreneurship, Romania is a country with almost endless possibilities, as the general manager of Karpaten Meat Group says: “Romania is the country as far as the eye can see”. Here Samuel Widmer and Stefan Jung found the ideal conditions for premium beef production on sustainable grasslands.
On a trip to Romania the founders saw the real potential of Transylvanian grasslands. The idea had been around for a while and so was will. Here, in the Carpathians they found the ideal place to start their first project so, in 2008 they established their first Angus breed cattle rearing farm and committed to producing high-quality beef, both environmentally and economically speaking.
And here is how “from grass to beef” started – beef from the Carpathians being the future of Angus in Europe. Therefore, our unit in Romania, based on a successful combination of resources for premium Angus beef production at the highest standards, has become a model for future similar businesses in Europe. The goal of its founders is that European countries should be the main premium beef suppliers in Europe.
We, Karpaten Meat team, consider it our duty to contribute to the food consumption of the population with healthy and high-quality products. Accordingly, current company values reflect our agricultural heritage, honesty and integrity, trust and respect. For us, the way we work is the way we live – in harmony with nature and aligned to the highest possible quality standards, therefore this type of business is a perfect match to this country and what we are committed to achieve. The Angus beef business promotes a sustainable future, and its entire structure is built on a foundation of respect for the relationships they are forging.
The trend in Europe is that of increasing cattle production in the Balkan states. The founders of Karpaten Meat have recognized this trend and have established in Romania a functional hub of Angus cattle, as well as a network for Angus calves production through the partnership programmes that we offer our collaborators. Our project also relies on links with trustworthy partners across Europe. Our Angus system is based on cooperation with partner companies, both for breeding and fattening. Therefore, there are mutual economic advantages, by specializing in individual production stages. As system provider, Karpaten Meat offers fair supply and acquisition contracts that are mutually beneficial.
